WHY DO SOME FRAGRANCES SMELL STRONGER OR LAST LONGER THAN OTHERS?
Essential oils and perfumes naturally vary in scent strength. Generally, light, fresh, green fragrances are more volatile and disappear faster, while heady, musky, woody fragrances tend to linger in the air.



ARE THERE RULES TO FOLLOW WHEN SELECTING FRAGRANCE FOR SPECIFIC AREA?
General speaking, if you love the scent, use it. An exception is sleeping environments, where strong, heady scents and invigorating scents should be avoided.



WHY DO I STOP DETECTING SCENT AFTER TESTING A FEW FRAGRANCES?
Our olfactory glands become saturated after smelling approximately three different scents in a row. Sniffing fresh coffee beans will help neutralise your olfactory glands.



WHY DOES THE SAME SCENT SMELL DIFFERENT IN EACH OF THE VARIOUS PRODUCTS?
Each different method of delivering scent (ie., Aroma Reeds, Scented Candles, Room Mists + Aromatic Oils) will affect the fragrance, especially the scented candles as heat can have a dramatic effect on scent.

We also enhance and lower certain scent notes in all four products to guarantee the effectiveness.  For example, some scent ingredients will not burn.  Many people may have a favourite scent in one product and a different favourite in another.



WHAT FACTORS INFLUENCE THE LEVEL OF SCENT DETECTED?
Large open rooms, breezes and humidity ‘eat up’ fragrance. Additionally fragrance is subjective – each of us will find certain fragrances more detectable (or less) than another person.



CAN I USE MY ROOM FRAGRANCE ON MY SKIN AS A PERSONAL PERFUME?
Many people do wear our fragrance and are absolutely delighted with it, however it is good to keep in mind we have not tested them for this purpose.



HOW LONG WILL MY CANDLE BURN?
Jaye Niemi Scented Candles will burn for 50 hours and the scent will stay deliciously beautiful for the life of the candle.   We recommend burning for at least 3 hours the first time to allow the entire surface of the wax to fully melt.



ARE REFILLS AVAILABLE FOR THE AROMA REEDS?
We do not offer refills for a few reasons. The Reeds become saturated by the end of the bottle so their effectiveness would be reduced if wicking a second bottle, and the delicate fragrance stores best in glass. Therefore we would still need to provide a packaged glass refill and Prepared Reeds, defeating the purpose.



DO I NEED TO LEAVE ALL THE REEDS IN MY AROMA REEDS BOTTLE?
Yes. The reeds fit tightly in the cap and this helps keep out insects and reduces oxygen entering the bottle. To reduce the scent emitted, only flip 1 or 2 reeds at a time.



THE PERFUME HAS CHANGED COLOUR. IS THIS NORMAL?
Yes (providing you have not stored the fragrance in direct sunlight and only used Jaye Niemi reeds). With use the perfumes naturally deepen in colour, particularly noticeable in our Tuberose + Sandalwood and Vanilla Orchid fragrances. These contain vanilla essential oil which naturally darkens once exposed to light. This is natural and does not affect the scent.



DOES THE FRAGRANCE CHANGE ONCE OPEN?
Yes. The scent will continue to mature once the fragrance has saturated the reeds and you will notice fragrance that has been in use will have a ‘deeper’ scent than a freshly opened bottle.


HOW LONG WILL REEDS LAST AND WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE?
Many factors affect the evaporation rate, such as hot dry weather, air-conditioning, drafts and so on. Generally they will last many months, depending on the bottle size.  Due to the high content of essential oils, we recommend unopened bottles be used within 2.5 years.



MY CANDLE HAS CHANGED COLOUR SLIGHTLY. WHY?
The change is simply the fragrance deepening in colour after being exposed to light, and on the top where it is also exposed to oxygen. This is perfectly normal and has absolutely no effect on the scent or burn quality.



AFTER BURNING, MY CANDLE SOMETIMES DEVELOPS A LUMPY SURFACE. IS THIS NORMAL?
Yes. Our botanical waxes behave very differently to paraffin waxes. The “buttery” texture of our botanical wax combined with the fragrances can cool leaving a slightly lumpy surface.
